Only the PMS vendor's published list can confirm it, and the three vendors publish very different things. In 2026, Dentrix Help lists supported devices by connection method. Patterson's Eaglesoft list covers version 24.2 and up, accurate as of January 1, 2025. Open Dental says any 32-bit TWAIN sensor "should be compatible" but untested (Open Dental).

Which guide you need: this is the device-by-PMS reference. For a quick check on a single sensor, see x-ray sensor and PMS compatibility. For TWAIN and bridge setup, see sensor TWAIN drivers and PMS bridges.

How should I read this compatibility table?

We list a pairing only when the PMS vendor's own page names it. "Not listed" means the vendor's page doesn't name the device, not that it can't work; ask the device maker and the PMS vendor before buying. For Open Dental, a program bridge links Open Dental to the device's own imaging software; it doesn't mean Open Dental tested the device. Open Dental's sensor list is "reported by users" (Open Dental), and its bridge list is at Open Dental program bridges.

Sensors are covered in more depth in X-ray sensor PMS compatibility; drivers and bridges in sensor TWAIN drivers and PMS bridges.

Sources as above. Dentrix notes that with the DTX Studio bridge it saves only a 2D snapshot of a 3D volume, and the full volume stays in the third-party software (Dentrix Help). Imaging site prep is in pano and CBCT site requirements.

What about intraoral cameras?

Dentrix lists Air Techniques CamX Polaris and Spectra and Carestream CS 1000, 1200 and 1500 via TWAIN, plus USB cameras with joystick-style triggers (Dentrix Help). Patterson lists Schick USBCam4, Sirona Sirocam UAF Plus, several Air Techniques CamX models, Digital Doc Iris models, Sopro and Gendex AcuCam for Eaglesoft, and says most S-Video or composite cameras should work through a specific USB converter (Patterson). We didn't find an Open Dental camera list.

What should I check before buying?

  1. Find the exact model and software version on the PMS vendor's current list, not a reseller's.
  2. Ask the device maker which driver or bridge the PMS uses and whether it costs extra. Dentrix warns non-DEXIS devices may need driver purchases (Dentrix Help).
  3. Check end-of-support dates, like Schick AE's 7/1/2026 (Patterson 44369).
  4. For Open Dental bridges, put a BAA in place with the third-party program first, as Open Dental recommends (Open Dental).
  5. Record the device, driver version and bridge in your inventory.

The free device compatibility checker (coming soon) is planned to run these checks against vendor lists. Log each device, serial number and driver with the free equipment inventory & appraisal report (coming soon); see the equipment inventory template. Put every imaging device and acquisition PC on the plan with FloorStack Studio (live, free plan), which offers up to 3 compatible swaps per device (FloorStack FAQ).

How FloorStack helps

FloorStack is a vendor-neutral dental build-out platform that sells no hardware (FloorStack FAQ). FloorStack Studio (live, free plan) places imaging devices on your plan. The device compatibility checker and equipment inventory & appraisal report are free tools coming soon. Back to the Dental Equipment Inventory hub.

Frequently asked questions

Does Dentrix work with Planmeca imaging?

Dentrix lists Planmeca ProSensor and ProMax/ProOne via DIDAPI, plus a Romexis bridge (Dentrix Help).

Does Eaglesoft support 3D from Sirona CBCT units?

Patterson lists Sirona XG3D and SL as integrated in 2D only for Eaglesoft 24.2+ (Patterson).

Does Open Dental work with any sensor?

Open Dental says any sensor with a 32-bit TWAIN driver should be compatible but not all are tested (Open Dental).

Will Schick AE keep working with Eaglesoft?

On 24.20+ it requires IOSS integration, and service and manufacturer support end 7/1/2026 (Patterson).

What does "not listed" mean in this table?

The vendor's page doesn't name the device. It may still work; confirm with both vendors before buying.

Does a Dentrix bridge import full CBCT volumes?

It depends on the bridge. With DTX Studio, Dentrix saves only a 2D snapshot (Dentrix Help).
